What is a funnel?

A funnel, also known asa salesfunnel, is a model thatrepresentsthe path a potential customer takes fromfirst becoming awareof aproduct or service toactually makinga purchase.

This process is divided into different phases, which typically includeawareness, interest, decision, andaction. The funnel visualizes the reduction in the number of prospects at each stage, with only a portion of them going through the entire process and ultimately becoming customers.

An example of a sales funnel:

  • Step 1:
Attract attention (upper part of the funnel)

Example: You run an online store for pet supplies. You launch an advertising campaign on social media to draw people's attention to your products. Millions of pet owners see your ad, but not all of them are immediately interested.

  • Step 2:
Generate interest (middle part of the funnel)

Example: Of those who have seen your ad, some will click on your website to learn more. They now have a certain level of interest. They read blog posts about pet care, look at product descriptions, and maybe subscribe to your newsletter.

  • Step 3:
Generate interest (middle part of the funnel)

Example: Of those who have seen your ad, some will click on your website to learn more. They now have a certain level of interest. They read blog posts about pet care, look at product descriptions, and maybe subscribe to your newsletter.

  • Step 4:
Action – Purchase (end of funnel)

Example: Finally, some visitors decide to make a purchase. They become real customers who buy products from your online store.

In this process, you start with alarge number of potential customers(the peas at the top of the funnel) and end up with asmaller number of actual purchases(the peas that come out at the bottom). The sales funnel helps you visualize this process and understand at which points you are losing potential customers and where you can adjust your strategies to convert more of them into actual purchases.
