What is DNS?
The abbreviationDNSstands for "Domain Name System."
This is aname resolution service that automatically maps IP addresses of web servers (e.g., "178.20.101.17") to domain names such as "taismo.de."Domain names areeasierandmore intuitivefor people to remember. They usually consist of familiar words in a language and, unlike IPv4 or IPv6 addresses, are not just a random combination of letters and/or numbers.
How does DNS work?

When a domain name is entered into anInternet browser, the request is first forwarded to theDNS. The DNS searches the database for amatching entry. If an entry is found in the database, the service translates the domain name and forwards the request to the correspondingweb server. Thewebsite, which is located in a directory on the web server, is then displayed.
Why do I need DNS?
When creating a new website, the desired domain name thathas notyetbeen assignedmust usually be purchased from adomain registryfor a fee. Anentryon a DNS server is then required to link the domain name to a server address and a directory. Mostweb hosting providersordomain name registrarsoffer services to create these entries directly via their own platform.
If you want to move your website from one web server to another, all you need to do after the move isadjusttheDNS entry.
