An official Google source for the term does not exist.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Google denies direct use:<\/strong> Google spokespeople such as John Mueller have repeatedly stated that Google uses neither Google Analytics data nor the dwell time of individual pages directly for ranking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Only the use of click data is documented:<\/strong> The US antitrust trial against Google (2023) revealed that systems such as Navboost evaluate click and interaction data from search. Whether and how a dwell time feeds into them, Google has not disclosed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The widespread claim that dwell time is a direct ranking signal is therefore unproven. Put accurately: dwell time is a useful quality indicator for site owners, but not a confirmed ranking factor.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"why-a-high-dwell-time-is-still-worth-it\">Why a high dwell time is still worth it<\/h2>\n<p>A high dwell time shows that the page meets the <a href=\"https:\/\/taismo.de\/en\/what-is\/search-intent\/\">search intent<\/a>: the visitor finds the answer and stays.
