It is the hiring side of search engine optimization, and it replaces rented reach with visibility you own: A job board listing disappears when the booking ends, a ranking careers page keeps producing applications. At taismo this method runs under the name SEOcruiting.

👉 Not sure whether Google can find your open roles at all? We go through it with you in an SEOcruiting review.

What recruitment SEO means, and what it does not

Recruitment SEO optimizes three things: The careers page, each open role as its own page, and the employer content around both. The goal is narrow. When someone searches for a role in your field and your area, your page should be the result they open, and the application should start on your domain instead of on a platform you rent.

The term carries two meanings in English, and the search results prove it. In the US results for recruitment SEO (checked 26 July 2026), 14 of the top 19 pages explain how to attract candidates through search. The other five are agencies that place SEO staff. This guide covers the first meaning. If you are here to hire an SEO specialist, this is the wrong page.

The mechanical difference to every paid channel is the same one you know from advertising. Paid reach is rented and ends with the invoice. A ranking page is an asset: It works at night, on weekends and in the month you spend nothing. That is why recruitment SEO pays off for employers who hire repeatedly, and why it disappoints anyone who needs five people by the end of the month.

Where candidates actually search

Search reaches two groups. Someone typing registered nurse jobs denver is actively looking and will apply this week. Someone typing registered nurse salary or what is it like to work at plus a company name is not applying today, but is open to a better offer. Job boards reach the first group. Search reaches both, and the second group is the one your competitors never talk to.

Those research queries are the reason recruitment SEO works on long tail keywords rather than on a handful of head terms. Job title plus city, job title plus shift pattern, job title plus entry level, job title plus a certification. Each phrase has modest volume on its own. Together they carry more qualified traffic than the generic term, and they are far cheaper to rank for.

One habit decides how much of that traffic you capture: Use the job title people search for, not the one on your org chart. Search carries the base load and gets cheaper per hire over time, paid social delivers the push when a role is urgent. In our work that means Facebook and Instagram plus the groups where a trade actually talks. Two channels run properly beat a thin presence on all of them. LinkedIn stays a fallback for active sourcing on single senior roles, never the foundation. That combination is what we run as SEOcruiting.

The careers page as a ranking asset

A careers page that only lists open roles ranks for nothing. It has no text for Google to match against a query and nothing for a candidate to read. A careers page that ranks answers four questions: What the company does, what the work is actually like, how the hiring process runs and what happens after you apply.

Those four blocks do double duty. They give the page enough substance to compete for queries like working at plus your company name or jobs plus your city and trade, and they answer the objections that make good candidates close the tab. Honest beats polished here. A paragraph about shift patterns or the four week onboarding plan convinces more people than a stock photo of a team high five.

The careers page also needs to look important to Google, and that is a linking question. Put contextual internal links to it from the pages that already rank, with an anchor text that names the job family instead of saying careers. A single link in the footer navigation tells Google almost nothing, because every page carries it.

One landing page per open role

Every open role gets its own permanent URL on your own domain. That is the rule, and it is where most hiring pages fail: The roles live inside an applicant tracking widget, in a PDF, or only on a job board. Google can rank a landing page it can crawl. It cannot rank a role that only exists inside a script that loads after the page does.

A job page that works carries the searched job title in the H1 and the title tag, the location in plain text, the employment type, a real description of the work rather than a requirements list, and the salary range if you can publish it. Pick the keywords from how candidates phrase the role, then check that a crawler can reach the page without a login, because Google requires exactly that.

💡 Pro tip: Test the posting without a login

Open one of your job pages in a private browser window. If you see a login screen, a cookie wall or an empty container where the role should be, Google sees the same thing. That one check finds more hiring visibility problems than any tool report.

JobPosting markup and Google job results

JobPosting is the schema.org type that makes a posting eligible for the job search experience inside Google. Google Search Central requires five properties on the page, namely datePosted, description, hiringOrganization, jobLocation and title. Google also states plainly that users must be able to see the job posting details without the need to log in.

The four building blocks of recruitment SEO
<rect width="720" height="340" fill="#f6f8f8" rx="10"/><g font-family="Arial,sans-serif"><text x="360" y="40" text-anchor="middle" font-size="20" font-weight="800" fill="#072328">What a hiring search system is built from</text><rect x="40" y="70" width="300" height="82" rx="8" fill="#ED8924"/><text x="190" y="102" text-anchor="middle" font-size="15" font-weight="700" fill="#ffffff">Careers page</text><text x="190" y="126" text-anchor="middle" font-size="12" fill="#fdf0e2">Ranks for your employer brand</text><rect x="380" y="70" width="300" height="82" rx="8" fill="#ED8924"/><text x="530" y="102" text-anchor="middle" font-size="15" font-weight="700" fill="#ffffff">One page per role</text><text x="530" y="126" text-anchor="middle" font-size="12" fill="#fdf0e2">Ranks for job title plus city</text><rect x="40" y="168" width="300" height="82" rx="8" fill="#072328"/><text x="190" y="200" text-anchor="middle" font-size="15" font-weight="700" fill="#ffffff">JobPosting markup</text><text x="190" y="224" text-anchor="middle" font-size="12" fill="#c9d6d3">Feeds Google job results</text><rect x="380" y="168" width="300" height="82" rx="8" fill="#072328"/><text x="530" y="200" text-anchor="middle" font-size="15" font-weight="700" fill="#ffffff">Employer content</text><text x="530" y="224" text-anchor="middle" font-size="12" fill="#c9d6d3">Reaches people before they apply</text><rect x="40" y="266" width="640" height="42" rx="8" fill="#e2e8e7"/><text x="360" y="293" text-anchor="middle" font-size="13" font-weight="700" fill="#072328">Crawlable HTML, mobile delivery, fast pages. Without this layer nothing above it ranks.</text><text x="680" y="330" text-anchor="end" font-size="11" fill="#8b9997">Fig. 2 · taismo</text></g>
Fig. 2: Careers page, individual job pages, JobPosting markup and employer content sit on one technical layer.

JobPosting markup is structured data doing what it does everywhere else, from products to events: It hands a machine the facts instead of asking it to guess them from the layout. The payoff is the same too. A posting with valid markup can appear as a rich result with the location, the posting date and the employment type visible before anyone clicks.

One detail separates the teams that implement this from the teams that implement it well. For job posting URLs, Google recommends the Indexing API instead of a sitemap, because the API prompts Googlebot to crawl the page sooner. The Indexing API accepts only two content types at all, JobPosting pages and BroadcastEvent inside a VideoObject, which tells you how seriously Google treats time critical hiring content. For roles that fill in two weeks, the difference between a crawl tomorrow and a crawl in ten days is the entire campaign.

What to do when a role is filled

Filled roles are where hiring pages rot. Google documents exactly three acceptable ways to retire a posting: Set the validThrough property to a date in the past, remove the page so it returns a 404 or 410 status code, or strip the JobPosting structured data from the page. Anything else leaves a posting that Google still shows and candidates still apply to.

Resist the reflex to send every filled role to the homepage with a 301 redirect. Google treats a redirect to an unrelated page as a soft 404, so you lose the signal and gain nothing. Where a role comes back every year, keep the URL alive as an evergreen page for that job family and mark it as currently closed. Where it does not, let it go with a 410.

Local visibility for site based roles

Most roles are filled within commuting distance, which makes local search the highest yield part of recruitment SEO. Queries follow the pattern job title plus city, and the people typing them can realistically take the job. That is a far tighter audience than a national campaign, and it costs less to win.

Three things carry local hiring visibility: A maintained Google Business Profile for every site, location data that matches everywhere it appears, and one job page per location instead of one page listing five cities. Multi site employers who merge their locations into a single page compete against themselves for every city query. The same principles drive commercial rankings, which is why this work overlaps almost completely with local SEO.

Reviews belong in this section too. Candidates research an employer before they apply, and Google reviews sit right next to your brand name while they do it. A profile with 40 recent reviews and visible replies changes the decision more than another paragraph of employer branding copy.

Can candidates find your roles today?

We check how your careers page and your job postings perform in search, which queries you already show up for and where the fastest gains sit. You get a prioritized list, not a tool export.

See how SEOcruiting works

Employer content that ranks before anyone applies

The third building block reaches people who are not looking yet. They search for pay ranges, day to day realities, training paths, certification routes and shift patterns. Answer those questions honestly on your own site and you become the source months before a vacancy exists. When the vacancy appears, you are not a stranger competing on salary alone.

This content pays twice. It ranks for a wide field of queries that no job posting can cover, and it is exactly the material that AI systems quote when someone asks an assistant what a job in your trade is like. Getting cited in those answers follows its own rules, which we cover under generative engine optimization. The practical version: Write clear, checkable statements with numbers, and the same paragraph that convinces a candidate becomes the paragraph a model repeats.

Keep it real. Recruiting content written as advertising reads as advertising, ranks poorly and converts worse. The pages that work name the difficult parts of the job as clearly as the benefits, because the candidates who stay are the ones who knew what they signed up for.

What recruitment SEO costs and what it saves

Recruitment SEO costs work, not clicks. The bill has two parts: The one time build of the careers page, the job page template and the markup, and the ongoing upkeep of content and postings. What it does not have is a per hire fee that repeats forever.

Look at what employers currently pay for the alternative. In our own keyword data (SE Ranking, US database, July 2026) the query where to post a job shows 390 searches a month at a cost per click of 17.90 USD, and where can I post jobs another 480. Employers are bidding almost 18 dollars for a single click from a person who has not posted anything yet. That is the price level of the paid hiring market, and it repeats for every role.

Recruitment SEO inverts that curve. The first two roles are expensive in hours. Every role after that is cheaper, because the page template, the markup and the employer content already exist and the domain has already earned its rankings. Cost per application falls the longer the channel runs, which is the opposite of what happens on a job board. The honest version: It is rarely the fastest route to a hire, and it is usually the cheapest one per hire once you hire more than occasionally. It works best as part of a broader SEO program rather than as an isolated hiring project, because the technical work underneath serves both.

Where recruitment SEO stops working

Three limits are worth naming before you plan around this channel.

Paid reach against search visibility over time
<rect width="720" height="330" fill="#f6f8f8" rx="10"/><g font-family="Arial,sans-serif"><text x="360" y="38" text-anchor="middle" font-size="20" font-weight="800" fill="#072328">Reach over time</text><line x1="70" y1="256" x2="670" y2="256" stroke="#8b9997" stroke-width="2"/><line x1="70" y1="70" x2="70" y2="256" stroke="#8b9997" stroke-width="2"/><text x="370" y="286" text-anchor="middle" font-size="12" fill="#55605f">Months of running the channel</text><text x="200" y="98" font-size="13" font-weight="700" fill="#072328">Paid reach</text><text x="200" y="140" font-size="11" fill="#55605f">Budget stops, reach stops</text><text x="470" y="150" font-size="13" font-weight="700" fill="#ED8924">Search visibility</text><text x="470" y="192" font-size="11" fill="#55605f">Slow start, then it keeps running</text><text x="680" y="320" text-anchor="end" font-size="11" fill="#8b9997">Fig. 3 · taismo</text></g>
Fig. 3: Paid reach stops with the budget. For an urgent role, pay for reach and let the organic work run in parallel.

Volume. For rare senior roles with a nationwide market, the search volume can be too small to build on. Active sourcing wins there, with LinkedIn as the fallback channel.

Substance. Search makes an employer visible faster, including a bad one. If your process takes three weeks to reply, more traffic changes nothing.

None of these are arguments against the channel. They decide the sequence: Paid channels cover the immediate need, recruitment SEO removes that need from next year.

How to start in six steps

Measure what Google already has. Check which of your job pages are indexed and which queries they get impressions for in Google Search Console. Most teams find fewer pages than they expected.

Fix the delivery. Job pages have to be crawlable HTML on your own domain, fast and usable on a phone. Job search happens on phones, which turns Core Web Vitals into a hiring metric.

Rebuild the careers page. Answer the four candidate questions, name what the work is really like and cut the stock phrases.

Give every role its own URL. Use the searched job title, name the location in text, describe the work.

Add JobPosting markup and the Indexing API. Validate the required five properties, then notify Google when a posting goes live or comes down.

Measure applications, not rankings. A page on position three that nobody applies through has a content problem, and more ranking work will not fix it.

If you do not know which of the six blocks is holding you back, a technical SEO audit answers that in days. In practice the blocker is almost always step two, and it is almost always cheaper to fix than anyone expects.

Hire without paying for every click.

taismo makes your careers page and your job postings visible in Google, then combines that base with social recruiting for the roles that cannot wait. It turns hiring visibility into an asset you own instead of reach you rent from a job board for each opening.

Is recruitment SEO the same as hiring an SEO specialist?

No. The phrase carries two meanings in English. Recruitment SEO in this guide means using search to fill your own vacancies. The other meaning, SEO recruitment, describes agencies that place SEO staff. In the US results for the term, 14 of the top 19 pages cover the first meaning.

Where should you post a job so that Google finds it?

Post it on your own domain first, as a crawlable HTML page with its own permanent URL, then syndicate it to job boards. A posting that lives only inside a job board or an applicant tracking widget earns visibility for that platform, not for you.

How much does it cost to post a job on Indeed or LinkedIn?

Both price per posting, and rates differ by country, role and duration. The cost pattern matters more than the number: You pay again for every role, every renewal and every repost, while a ranking careers page keeps delivering applications after the spending stops.

Do you need JobPosting structured data to appear in Google job results?

Yes. Google requires five properties on a job posting page, namely datePosted, description, hiringOrganization, jobLocation and title. Google also requires that users can see the posting details without logging in.

What makes a good careers page?

A careers page that ranks answers four questions: What the company does, what the work is actually like, how the hiring process runs and what happens after you apply. A bare list of open roles has no text for Google to match and no substance for a candidate to read.

Sources

<ul class="taismo-quellen"
